Yes, Sri Lanka is generally safe for travellers, and tourism is an important part of the local economy, so visitors are warmly welcomed. Most trips go smoothly, especially when you stick to well-travelled routes and take basic safety precautions.

While you can enjoy a whirlwind trip in as little as five days, we recommend spending 10 to 14 days for a well-rounded experience. During these months, you’ll enjoy plenty of sunshine and relatively low rainfall, ideal for beach days and scenic train rides.
Keep in mind this is also peak tourist season, so prices are higher and popular spots can be busy. That said, you can visit Sri Lanka any time of year, but thanks to its tropical climate, the weather can vary between regions; you might be soaking up the sun on one coast while it’s raining on the other.
