Most trekkers fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara (25-minute flight) and then drive to Nayapul, the trailhead for the Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek. From Nayapul, the trek begins with an easy walk to Tikhedhunga.
The main highlights include the Poon Hill sunrise views, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Dhaulagiri, and Machapuchare (Fishtail) peaks. The trek also passes through rhododendron forests, waterfalls, and the traditional Gurung village of Ghandruk.
Accommodation is primarily in teahouses along the trail at Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani, and Tadapani. In Pokhara and Kathmandu, hotels range from 3★ to 5★, providing more comfort before and after the trek. You can choose which one suits your needs.
The Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek is considered moderate. Trekkers should be comfortable walking four to six hours a day on hilly trails, including the famous Ulleri stone steps. No technical climbing experience is required.
This trek typically takes 5–7 days, depending on your pace and itinerary. A standard route includes Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, Tadapani, and Ghandruk before returning to Pokhara.
The best time for the Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons, when skies are clear, and temperatures are comfortable. These months offer the best views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and the Dhaulagiri range.
