Meet mountain gorillas and chimpanzees

5
days
Meeting up in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, we head west to beautiful Kibale Forest to track and spend time with a troop of chimpanzees. We then head to the mountains of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and trek with a guide through thick rainforest to see a gorilla troop and spend an hour in their company! You can look forward to gorgeous vegetation and lots of birdlife in both forests too!

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival day

You're picked up by your local leader at Entebbe International Airport and driven west to Fort Portal to go on a hike to Amabere Caves. During the hike in this lush and hilly region you see'll crater lakes and tea plantations, and you can swim in a natural pool. We then transfer to Kibale Forest Camp, where we recommend sundowners on your deck to appreciate the chorus of the forest!

Day 2: Hang with chimps

Today we enter Kibale National Park, a beautiful rainforest and one of the best places in the world for chimpanzee trekking. We spend the best part of the day with a chimpanzee troop in an immersive experience called ‘chimpanzee habituation’. Finally, there's also the option of taking a stroll along the low boardwalk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, which we highly recommend as this is a truly beautiful and highly biodiverse part of the world!

Day 3: Head to Bwindi Impenentrable Forest

Today we travel through more lush countryside to reach Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the southwest corner of the country. It's one of the oldest rainforests in Africa and home to many species of plants and animals, but of course the stars of the show are the endangered mountain gorillas! That said, the forest is also a birder's paradise, with over 300 species and 90% of all Albertine rift endemics. Settle into the lodge and then go for a little hike to appreciate all of the natural beauty, or chill on your deck and appreciate the incredible canopy view.

Day 4: Go gorilla trekking!

Today is the day you meet mountain gorillas! You meet your park ranger in the morning for a briefing. You then head into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to find your gorilla troop. The hike is amazing, as the forest is home to many beautiful and rare plants, birds and animals. You spend a special hour in the presence of a gorilla troop, watching them quietly as they interact with one another, eat and groom themselves. Amazing!! After a much-needed lunch, you transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and relax at the lodge whilst enjoying the beautiful view.

Day 5: Time to fly away

After a blissful adventure filled with all of the magic that Uganda has to offer, it's time to take you to the airport so that you can head home with memories that will last a lifetime! We hope you had an amazing time, and we can't wait to see you again soon.
