See the Golden Circle with geysers and waterfalls, cross glaciers and volcanic terrain, explore Lake Mývatn, visit the northern town of Akureyri, and explore the dramatic Snæfellsnes Peninsula, full of hidden beaches, cliffs and natural sights that most travellers will never get to see.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Reykjavik
When you arrive at Keflavík Airport, transfer to your hotel in Reykjavík. Depending on your arrival time, you will have some time to explore the city, where you will get to see the Harpa Concert Hall and Hallgrímskirkja Church.
Day 2: Explore the Golden Circle
Today begins with a welcome briefing with your tour guide at 8:30 am. From here, set off for Þingvellir National Park, part of Iceland’s famous Golden Circle route. The journey continues to the Geysir geothermal area, about 45–60 minutes away, where Strokkur erupts every 5–10 minutes. The day ends at the impressive Gullfoss waterfall, with a stop at Friðheimar farm along the way.
Day 3: Þórsmörk Super Jeep Adventure
Today is a full-day super jeep adventure into Þórsmörk, also known as the "Valley of Thor". Travel deep into the highlands, crossing rivers and taking in the raw, dramatic landscapes along the way. You will be able to explore Nauthúsagil Ravine, visit Gígjökull Glacier, and walk through the impressive Stakkholtsgjá Canyon. End the day with sweeping views from Valahnúkur viewpoint, with plenty of time for wildlife spotting and photography throughout.
Day 4: South Coast Wonders of Iceland
Your day will begin at the breathtaking Skógafoss waterfall, before continuing to Dyrhólaey, where you may spot puffins and Arctic terns along the cliffs. From there, visit the striking Reynisdrangar sea stacks near Vík, before ending the day at the spectacular Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. Here, you can walk along the black-sand shore among drifting icebergs.
Day 5: Explore the Eastern Fjords and Egilsstaðir
Travel through the quiet beauty of the Eastern Fjords, where glacier-carved mountains meet peaceful coastal inlets. You will then stop at Alftafjörður lagoon, a sheltered bay often home to graceful whooper swans, before arriving at Egilsstaðir.
Day 6: Stuðlagil Canyon, Möðrudalur and Dettifoss
Travel through one of Iceland’s most beautiful landscapes as you visit Stuðlagil Canyon, known for its turquoise waters and dramatic basalt columns. Continue to Möðrudalur, the highest inhabited farm in Iceland, before standing in amazement at Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. End the day exploring the Námafjall geothermal area and the surreal pseudocraters of Mývatn.
Day 7: Discover Lake Mývatn, Hverfjall, Goðafoss and Akureyri
Explore the volcanic wonders of Lake Mývatn, including the lava formations of Dimmuborgir, the Hverfjall crater, and the steaming Grjótagjá cave. Continue to Goðafoss, known as the “waterfall of the gods,” before arriving in Akureyri, where the afternoon is free to relax or explore. For those keen, there’s also the optional add-on to join a Zodiac whale watching excursion.
Day 8: Explore Siglufjörður and Hofsós
Today you will journey along the scenic northern coast to Siglufjörður, Iceland’s northernmost town and former herring capital. Continue to Hofsós for a swim in the geothermal pool, where panoramic views stretch across Skagafjörður Bay.
Day 9: Experience Kolugljúfur, Snæfellsnes and Stykkishólmur
Travel to Kolugljúfur Canyon, where dramatic waterfalls are linked to the legend of a giantess Kola. You will then continue to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, known for its lava fields, Viking history, and its ever-changing coastal scenery, before arriving in the charming harbour town of Stykkishólmur.
Day 10: Coastal Drive to Reykjavík
Enjoy a scenic final drive along Iceland’s coastline back to Reykjavík, taking in the landscapes one last time as you return to the city. Along the way, unwind in the world-famous Blue Lagoon before your final night in Reykjavík, the perfect moment to relax and reflect on your journey.
Day 11: Departure day
All good things must come to an end. Enjoy breakfast before your transfer to Keflavík Airport. If you’d like to extend your stay, speak to your tour representative about spending more time exploring Reykjavík.
